About the route<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

Discover the Blue Route along the eastern G\u00f6ta Canal<\/h2>\n

The Blue Route takes you from Motala through some of the G\u00f6ta Canal\u2019s most famous scenery. The journey begins at the Borenshult flight of locks and continues across Lake Boren to Borensberg and onwards to the impressive locks at Berg.<\/p>\n

After Berg, cross Lake Roxen towards Norsholm and continue through the \u00d6sterg\u00f6tland countryside. Via Lake Aspl\u00e5ngen you reach S\u00f6derk\u00f6ping, where the boat stays overnight among restaurants, caf\u00e9s and the canal\u2019s bustling summer promenade.<\/p>\n

On the return trip you follow the same waterways back to Motala. The route is suitable for every boat in our fleet and is especially well suited to our electric boats.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

Guest harbours along the Blue Route<\/h2>\n

Along the Blue Route you pass several guest harbours where you can spend the night, take a break or stock up on supplies. Here are the main stops between Motala and S\u00f6derk\u00f6ping.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

Motala verkstad<\/h3>\n

This is where your canal holiday begins and ends. A small, recently built guest harbour with good facilities, including showers, toilets and parking.<\/p>\n

G\u00f6ta Kanal Charter recommends:<\/strong> Visit the G\u00f6ta Canal museum, have coffee at Mallbodens caf\u00e9, enjoy a meal at Berggrens k\u00e4llare, or stock up at grocery stores about 500 metres from the harbour.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

Borenshult<\/h3>\n

Guest harbour below the Borenshult flight of locks on Lake Boren. The five-lock staircase is the G\u00f6ta Canal\u2019s second largest, with a height difference of 15.3 metres, and is one of Motala\u2019s most popular attractions.<\/p>\n

G\u00f6ta Kanal Charter recommends:<\/strong> If you decide not to stop in Borensberg while travelling west, or have had enough locking after descending the Borenshult staircase on an eastbound trip, this harbour offers a peaceful place to rest and spend the night.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

Borensberg<\/h3>\n

Guest harbour in the canal town of Borensberg. Here you will find one of only two G\u00f6ta Canal locks still operated manually in the traditional way. There are 20 guest berths.<\/p>\n

G\u00f6ta Kanal Charter recommends:<\/strong> You will probably spend your second night here, or your second-to-last if heading east. Excellent facilities, with restaurants and grocery stores nearby.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

Berg<\/h3>\n

The locks at Berg are among the G\u00f6ta Canal\u2019s top attractions, drawing thousands of visitors. The area has restaurants, caf\u00e9s, adventure golf, a hostel offering bike rentals and more. There are 40 guest berths, plus ten berths below the Carl Johan lock staircase with electricity, water and a service building with showers and toilets.<\/p>\n

G\u00f6ta Kanal Charter recommends:<\/strong> A natural overnight stop; see the route plan. ICA N\u00e4ra supermarket is a five-minute walk away.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

Norsholm<\/h3>\n

Guest harbour east of the lock. Guest services are available at Kapten Bille\u2019s Caf\u00e9, which also has an STF hostel and a fully licensed restaurant. Diesel is available at the quay, as is bottled gas. There are 20 guest berths.<\/p>\n

G\u00f6ta Kanal Charter recommends:<\/strong> Need to stock up? ICA N\u00e4ra with generous opening hours is just a short walk away. Depending on your plans and the weather, you can spend the night here or at Berg, the next guest harbour.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

S\u00f6derk\u00f6ping<\/h3>\n

The canal harbour in S\u00f6derk\u00f6ping is one of the G\u00f6ta Canal\u2019s most popular, with restaurants, caf\u00e9s and summer shops.<\/p>\n

G\u00f6ta Kanal Charter recommends:<\/strong> Grocery stores and the Swedish alcohol retailer Systembolaget are nearby. There are many cosy waterside restaurants to choose from, as well as ice cream at Smultronst\u00e4llet, sightseeing trains and more.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

Malfors<\/h3>\n

The guest harbour is beside Malfors Bridge in Ljungsbro, within walking distance of the Cloetta chocolate shop.<\/p>\n
